About
Andy Langer is a journalist, moderator, emcee, television reporter, and podcaster. As the University of Texas at Austin’s first-ever Senior Director of Live Music & Entertainment, he was charged with creating core memories and professional opportunities for students while strengthening the cultural connection between the university and the city of Austin.
Langer is also a Writer at Large for Texas Monthly, where he’s written about music since 1997. From 2002–2016, he was a contributing editor and music columnist at Esquire, a run that included eight special music issues, four music-and-fashion collaborations with photographer Danny Clinch, and a rare in-person interview with Apple’s Steve Jobs—later chronicled in Walter Isaacson’s Jobs biography. He also hosted The Esquire Minute on Sirius/XM for six years.
For more than two decades, Langer was an on-air host at KGSR, later known as Austin City Limits Radio (97.1 KGSR Austin), helping guide the station’s transition into its current brand-sharing partnership with PBS’s Austin City Limits. His writing has also appeared in Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Bon Appétit, Southern Living, and Billboard.
In March 2021, his interview with Willie Nelson served as South by Southwest’s keynote address. A six-time winner of “Best Music Journalist” in The Austin Chronicle’s Best of Austin poll, Langer is also a longtime host and moderator at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and for over a decade served as emcee for Willie Nelson’s annual New Year’s Eve shows at ACL Live.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Journalism, Langer cut his teeth at The Daily Texan and still proudly calls Austin home.
